Atlanta (October 5, 2021) – Michael Young has joined Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP to chair the firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. Young joins as a partner.
“Clients need counsel who understand legal details within the larger business context in which they operate,” said MMM Managing Partner Simon Malko. “Michael’s knowledge of the rapidly-changing privacy and cybersecurity area, and his ability to speak the language of business, make him an excellent addition.”
Young helps clients’ address compliance with a wide range of national and international privacy issues, such as data transfer, data subject rights compliance, consumer notice and consent, vendor and customer contracting, and marketing. Young also provides strategic counsel for privacy compliance program management and in highly regulated areas such as finance and children’s data. A former computer programmer, he will initially focus on the data-related needs of the many fast-growing technology companies the firm represents. He says he looks forward to leading MMM’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice.
“If you look back 20 years, there were relatively few privacy regulations,” Young said. “Today the landscape is much different. The astonishing increase in the complexity and level of regulation imposes challenges on businesses – especially companies doing business in several jurisdictions – to manage and limit data use,” he added.
His experience includes work for global corporations on issues including launching new products and services; mitigating privacy risks; and establishing privacy programs, policies and guidance on privacy, IT and data management. Young is a prolific writer and a frequent speaker at industry events.
He is admitted to the state bar associations of New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Georgia. He was previously counsel with Alston & Bird. September 23 was his first day at MMM.
