MMM’s Barclay Taylor was featured in a recent Law360 article discussing Georgia’s newly approved state tax court. With 51.88% of voter support, the amendment will replace the current administrative tax tribunal with a tax court within Georgia’s judicial branch.
Taylor says that he expects improved efficiency from this amendment, noting that the tax court “gives taxpayers a more robust venue for resolving tax disputes at the state level, the convenience of conducting hearings in a more convenient location, and the ability to appeal decisions with the Georgia Court of Appeals or the Georgia Supreme Court.”
Taylor also highlighted the anticipated improvements in case processing speed, which will alleviate the current Tax Tribunal’s backlog of cases and give taxpayers “the opportunity to have their case heard quicker as opposed to sitting around accruing interest.”
