Ney National Mock Trial Tournament on March 26-28, 2010 at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. The American Mock Trial Association has named Furman University as one of eight sites to host opening rounds of the 2010 championship series. W. Andrew McNeil, an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Litigation Practices, will be at the tournament to present awards to the winners of the opening rounds, as they advance to the 2010 American Mock Trial Association’s National Championship Tournament on April 16-18 in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. McNeil is also attending the tournament as a coach of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s mock trial team.
The American Mock Trial Association was founded in 1985 by Dean Richard Calkins of Drake Law School. AMTA serves as the governing body for intercollegiate mock trial competition. Through engaging in trial simulations in competition with teams from other institutions, students develop critical thinking and public speaking skills, as well as a knowledge of legal practices and procedures. AMTA sponsors regional and national-level competitions, as well as providing interesting and complex case materials for academic use. AMTA also sponsors mediation simulation tournaments.
