ntellectual Property lawyers Christopher W. Raimund and Ping Wang, M.D. have joined the Washington D.C. office of Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP.
“Chris and Ping’s exceptional experience will help us further expand our intellectual property group both in America and overseas,” said the firm’s Managing Partner Bob Saudek.
Dr. Wang, who will lead the firm’s Biotechnology practice within the IP group, comes to Morris, Manning from DLA Piper. She has performed patent work for both Chinese and American companies in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemicals and medical devices. She practiced medicine in China for several years after graduating from Kunming Medical College, then earned her J.D. degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center. She belongs to more than a dozen professional organizations including the American Medical Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Society for Neuroscience and the International Brain Research Organization.
Mr. Raimund, who will lead the firm’s Chemical practice in the IP group, was most recently with the Washington, D.C. office of Merchant & Gould, P.C. He was previously with DLA Piper, LLC, and worked as a primary patent examiner with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. His background includes patent work in the chemical, biotechnology and materials science areas with technologies such as polymers, medical devices and engineered materials, as well as semiconductor manufacturing and equipment. He earned his J.D. degree from George Washington University and his M.S. and B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
“Chris Raimund’s background at the Patent & Trademark Office and Dr. Wang’s experience as a physician and researcher in medical fields help give them an extremely strong understanding of the issues that will benefit our clients,” stated partner Tim Tingkang Xia, Ph.D., who leads the firm’s Intellectual Property and International Practice. “They will further facilitate the explosive growth of our IP practice, which has been in the making for four years in a row.”
“Dr. Wang will also bring new impetus to the firm’s dynamic China practice, given her ethnic background and connections to the Chinese government, its companies and research institutions,” added Xia, who earned his Ph.D. in physics. “With Dr. Wang, the firm’s China practice now has nine professionals who are Chinese-Americans, and five of them have Ph.D. or M.D. degrees.”
“We are pleased that two very talented intellectual property attorneys have decided to join us,” added Robert “Skip” Myers, who manages the firm’s Washington office, where the new partners will be based.
Dr. Wang and Mr. Raimund are among four new attorneys joining Morris, Manning & Martin this week. The firm also added a new partner based in Savannah, Georgia to its healthcare and real estate group. A fourth attorney joins the Commercial Real Estate Lending group in Atlanta.
