Washington, D.C. (January 1, 2023) – Hot List 2022, a national publication of the nonprofit organization Lawyers of Color, recognizes Morris, Manning & Martin’s Shanellah Verna Harris of Washington, D.C. The Hot List honors junior- and mid-level attorneys from across the nation who exemplify integrity, high achievement, leadership and a passion for diversity. Lawyers of Color, founded in 2013, is devoted to promoting diversity in the legal profession and advancing democracy and equality in marginalized communities.
Harris is an associate in the firm’s Commercial Real Estate Development and Finance and Hospitality Practices. The publication notes that she focuses primarily on acquisition, disposition, financing and management transactions within the hospitality, office, industrial and multifamily sectors. Before joining MMM, her experience centered on housing development and finance transactions on behalf of public housing authorities, developers and commercial lenders.
In addition to her professional work, Harris is deeply involved in the community. She most recently served as a member of the Program Committee of Women of Color in Community Development, a nonprofit formed to support the personal, educational and professional development of women of color engaged in fields related to community and economic development. She is also a former board member for George Washington University’s Association of Black Law Alumni. She is also active in mentoring current law students and helping recruit diverse attorneys to consider starting and advancing their careers at MMM.
