Atlanta (November 7, 2018) – Atlanta magazine has honored Morris, Manning & Martin’s John Yates as a 2018 Technology Groundbreaker. Yates, who heads MMM’s Corporate Technology Practice, is profiled in the publication’s November issue and was recognized at a Nov. 1 celebration at the Atlanta History Center.
“John has blazed a trail for Atlanta’s tech ecosystem for more than 30 years,” said Atlanta magazine editor Betsy Riley. “With technology constantly outpacing the law, Yates has continually juggled regulations with advances in innovation, for which we are all grateful.”
Yates is a pioneer in Atlanta technology law and founded or co-founded several trade organizations including the Southeastern Software Association, Southeastern Medical Device Association and Technology Association of Georgia (TAG.)
“Atlanta has a unique set of family members,” Yates said as he accepted the award. “It’s a diverse family membership and a membership that’s now leading the tech community,” he added. “I’m honored to be a recipient and I also honor all the other recipients and folks in this room.”
Other 2018 Groundbreakers include: Mailchimp, Kabbage, Engage Ventures, Secureworks president and CEO Mike Cote, Atlanta Tech Village founder David Cummings, Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), the Venture Atlanta conference, Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeff Sprecher, The Weather Channel, entrepreneur Paul Judge, WebMD founder Jeff Arnold and Arnold’s PR representative Dawn Whaley. Several winners expressed their thanks to Yates for their success as they accepted their own awards.
