Atlanta (January 2012) ─ John Yates, a partner at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP, has accepted a post on the board of The Atlanta Sports Council. Yates is also the chair of The Atlanta Basketball Host Committee for the 2013 NCAA® Men’s Final Four® basketball tournament.
The mission of the Council, which is a division of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, is to continually recruit and develop major sports competitions. Its ultimate goal is for Atlanta to host more major sporting events than any city in the world.
“John's role as Chairman for the 2013 NCAA Men’s Final Four local organizing committee, as well as many contributions to the Atlanta marketplace, make him a tremendous addition to the Atlanta Sports Council Board of Directors,” said Dan Corso - executive director, Atlanta Sports Council, and a senior vice president at the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. “We look forward to getting him involved in our collaborative efforts to recruit sporting events to the region, and work closely with his team on the Final Four next year.”
“This is a great opportunity,” Yates said. “Professional and collegiate sporting events add so much to our quality of life. They are also extremely important to driving our economy. I’m honored to work with the board and help guide the Council’s strategic vision.”
The Council’s board includes more than 40 corporate leaders and executives representing Atlanta’s professional teams, facilities and sports properties. It oversees all the Council’s activities and initiatives, which include acting as an event recruiter, creator and marketer.
