Washington, D.C. (September 2012) ─ Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP has won a prestigious award for its work in the captive insurance industry. At the 2012 U.S. Captive Services Awards announced Sept. 10 in Chicago, the firm was named “Best Onshore Law Firm.” MMM was selected as the “Best” from a group of seven leading national law firms which were nominated by industry representatives.
Captive Review, a London-based magazine covering the international insurance specialty, describes the awards as saluting those who thought differently, more deeply and worked harder to help their clients realize the benefits of captives. The editor’s comments noted that service providers are at the heart of the growth in the market, because they make the difference between having an idea and making it a success. The other six contenders in the U.S. law firm category were all major players in the field.
Robert "Skip" Myers, Managing Partner of the law firm’s Washington, D.C. office, accepted the award. He co-chairs MMM Insurance and Reinsurance Practice, and serves as general counsel of the National Risk Retention Association. Earlier this year Captive Review ranked him in the Top 5 of its Power 50 list of global captive industry attorneys.
A captive is a closely-held insurance company that insures the exposures and risks of its owners and affiliates.
