Atlanta (December 16, 2016) – The Healthcare Practice at Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP successfully represented Piedmont Atlanta Hospital in a crucial step in a large healthcare project. Piedmont plans to undertake a $603 million dollar expansion that will include a new 16-story hospital tower housing new state of the art surgical suites and patient rooms, as well as the Marcus Heart and Vascular Center, made possible by the Marcus Foundation. Located on the corner of Peachtree and Collier roads, the new facility will provide state of the art hospital amenities and services to patients from around the state and the Southeast.
MMM partner Robert Threlkeld and associate Elliott Leigh Coward represented Piedmont in its application for the certificate of need (CON), which is required by law before a hospital project can move forward. The Georgia Department of Community Health approved the CON Dec. 12. Davis Dunbar of Davis Dunbar Consulting consulted on the matter.
The firm’s Healthcare group represents clients in a range of matters with special expertise in areas including hospital/physician transactions, managed care litigation, False Claims Act representation, regulatory advising and audits, Certificate of Need, and healthcare technology. Threlkeld himself has successfully represented hospital and physician clients in a broad range of matters, including managed care litigation and disputes and False Claims Act representation as well as complex transactional and regulatory matters. Coward specializes in healthcare regulatory issues as well as Certificate of Need and transactional matters.
