Atlanta (January 19, 2022) – Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP earned 100 on the Corporate Equality Index – the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual assessment of LGBTQ+ workplace equality. This is the firm’s fifth time to achieve the important recognition. The Corporate Equality Index is considered the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
“Congratulations to Morris, Manning & Martin for achieving the title of ‘best places to work for LGBTQ+ equality’’ and working to advance inclusion in the workplace,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President of Programs, Research and Training.
The CEI rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:
- Non-discrimination policies
- Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families
- Supporting an inclusive culture and
- Corporate social responsibility
“Having a reliable benchmark is an important part of every diversity initiative,” said MMM Managing Partner Simon Malko. “The criteria, guidance and rankings that the Human Rights Campaign Foundation offers is extremely valuable as we demonstrate support for our LGBTQ+ attorneys and staff members.”
“Once again, HRC’s recognition of MMM is a testament to the firm’s commitment to being a positive force for change in the workplace,” said Partner Douglas Selph, founder of MMMPower, the firm’s Affinity Group, which serves members of the LGBTQ community and their allies. “This past year saw a major increase in the number of LGBTQ+ attorneys and staff at MMM as we continue to grow a diverse and inclusive team.”
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation says that in the CEI’s first year, 2002, only 13 companies achieved a top score. More than 840 major U.S. businesses earned top marks this year, reflecting growth across every measurement category, from adopting inclusive non-discrimination policies to equitable healthcare benefits for transgender employees.
“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers—from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns—could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” Brown added. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere.”
