Law firm leaders today are faced with a new challenge: managing multiple generations in a single workplace. MMM Managing Partner Simon Malko spoke with Law360’s Aebra Coe to discuss this unique position and how MMM bridges the generational gap.
Malko told Law360 that when he was an associate, if he asked partners why he was assigned tasks, he would receive answers ranging from “because I said so” or “because that’s the way I had to do it.” Now that the younger generations of millennials and Generation Z make up a significant share of the workplace, Malko said that they demand more involvement in their careers.
“If you invest the time to explain to someone the 'why,' it goes an incredibly long way to getting them involved,” Malko told Law360.
“So much of this is about building personal relationships," Malko said. "It's balancing overgeneralizing with recognizing that there is a different mentality among many baby boomers and Generation X and millennials and Generation Z."
