Multifamily Owners and Managers Beware: Anti-trust Lawsuits Against YieldStar Could Affect Rents You Charge

06.28.2023

Managers and owners of multifamily projects across the U.S. often use the same software platforms to set rent rates. An antitrust lawsuit and potential investigation by the DOJ--at the request of 4 U.S. Senators--against one of the nation's largest providers of this software, YieldStar, has the potential to get owners and managers in trouble. MMM's deep multifamily practice can help you consider ways to mitigate this risk in your property management and other agreements. RealPage's story shares more about the potential investigation.

In a letter sent Thursday to U.S. Assistant Attorney General for Antitrust Jonathan Kanter, Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Tina Smith of Minnesota, and Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts asked the DOJ to investigate the impact of RealPageā€™s YieldStar rental pricing software on consumers and inflation.
