Jude Halawi is an Associate in the firm's Product Liability & Class Action Practice. With a concentration on appellate and complex litigation, Jude specializes in litigation strategy, motion practice, and e-discovery. His primary areas of focus include policyholder recovery disputes, securities or financial services litigation, class action defense, Federal Arbitration Act litigation, and environmental matters.

Jude’s experience includes extensive drafting as lead author and researcher of motions, appellate briefs, and pleadings. Appearing for initial, status, and settlement conferences, Jude is proficient in arguing appeals and substantive motions. Additionally, Jude’s skills extend to preparing outlines and witnesses for depositions as well as leading all aspects of discovery and subpoena obligations, including drafting good faith letters and motions to compel, negotiating e-discovery protocols, and managing contract attorney review teams. Furthermore, Jude participates in alternative dispute resolution by negotiating and drafting settlements.

Representative Experience

  • Lead attorney for pharmacy benefits manager in statewide litigation involving 18 separate declaratory judgment actions against pharmacies obligated to arbitrate reimbursement disputes; craft litigation strategy to conform client’s goal to Alabama law and procedure and to address defendants’ delay tactics; author all pleadings, motions, and briefs, argue all motions, and lead all status conferences in each action; lead standing meetings with client and provide daily updates.
  • Sole associate on multiyear state and federal RCRA Section 7003(a) investigation of recycling facility; meet with client and working group daily to prepare for show cause hearings and weekly meetings with EPA, DOJ, and state regulators and to draft deliverables (e.g., consent decrees, weekly reports, and legal briefs in support of position that Auto Shredder Residue is not a hazardous waste).
  • Represented municipality through several rounds of appeal in matter of statutory interpretation regarding Alabama’s landfill approval process; lead brief writer and sole associate through all appeals, including administrative appeals and joint briefs with Solicitor General and state regulators.
