                               European Commission Announces New Domain

The European Commission announced that the new “.eu” top-level domain is now available for use by qualified entities in the European Union.  In order to prevent abusive registration by cybersquatters, a phased registration system is being implemented beginning December 7, 2005.  To read about the .eu registration process, please click here.

The benefit of registering a .eu top-level domain is to aid in protection of certain trademark rights.  If you already have a registered domain using .com, .net, .biz, etc. and have an established European presence or registered trademarkyou may be interested in registering .eu to expand your protection.  For additional information regarding the .eu top-level domain or to submit names for registration, please contact your technology or IP attorney at Morris, Manning & Martin.
